Senior Advanced Drama
(Ages 16 - 19 years)
This class will aim to develop the acting skills of the students so that they are able to perform the characterisation of a role with sensitivity and originality. This will be done through improvisation and the study of specific texts such as "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" The ideas of Stanislavski will be explored to see how they assist the actor in giving a truthful performance, and there will be an emphasis on movement and vocal skills.
The emphasis in all the lessons will be practical with students engaged in developing a full understanding of theatrical skills. Every piece of work by the students will be performed to other members of the group. In order for the critical skills of the students to develop every student will be asked to assess a piece of work, and to justify a comment by referring to moments in the scene. To say "It was good" will not be enough. Specific reasons must be given why a particular move or gesture was or was not effective.
